- Summary:
- For emergency management professionals, Rubin (Institute for Crisis, Disaster and Risk Management, George Washington U.) compiles 10 chapters by American practitioners and scholars of emergency management on the history of emergency management at the national level, updated for this edition up to 2010. Chapters address the response phase of emergency management for natural and human-induced events like earthquakes, hurricanes, droughts, floods, a flu pandemic, and explosions, including the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, the 9/11 attacks, and the Dust Bowl drought of the 1930s, and the development of national policies and organizations, including the establishment of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This edition adds information on older events and a new chapter on the disaster response to the BP oil spill in 2010. All chapters have been revised. The final chapter in the old edition has been separated into chapters on analysis of the events and the public administration context. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
