- Summary:
- Australian scientist Grafton Elliot Smith was known for his controversial theory of cultural diffusion, which was based on his research on Egyptian mummies in the early 1900s. Crook (emeritus, history, U. of Queensland, Australia) examines the life of Smith and the history of his ideas in the context of the archaeological discoveries of the early 20th century, in the hopes that current researchers will reassess Smith's attempts to integrate anthropology into a broader interdisciplinary framework. The book includes a few b&w maps and illustrations. It is distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
