Summary:
The authors note in their introduction that a gap exists between evidence and practice in the creation of health promotion materials, that the content of those types of communications--whether patient information sheets or descriptions of medicines and medical products--fail to follow "evidence-based best practice." The result? Many of those educational presentations do not provide information patients want and need. This book offers guidance to those professionals responsible for producing those materials on how to provide meaningful information to patients in ways that they can readily understand and use. The book covers nuts and bolts issues such as designing pages and text that are easy to read and understand, developing evidence-based content, using graphics, and how to promote behavior change through the materials created. Editors Abraham (behavior change, Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, UK), Kools (behavioral scientist in health, medicine, and life sciences, Maastricht U., Netherlands) and nine co-authors contributed to the book.
