- Summary:
- Prayer is everywhere the expression of man's basic attitude of dependence and humility towards his creator. The idea of producing an 'Oxford Book of Prayer' came from the Oxford University Press. With George Appleton as General Editor, and a group of about a dozen people representing the main Christian traditions, the prayers were selected and arranged in a setting that is not comprehensive, though it is hoped that in various sections of the book a reasonably representative selection will be found.
