- Summary:
- Author Luévano (religious studies, Chapman U.) has engaged in years of field research documenting the unsolved killings and disappearances of hundreds of women in the border city of Cuidad Juárez, Mexico. Theorizing the murders as a theological event, he uses femicide as a way to explore the conundrum of God's relationship to the cause of human suffering and the presence of the Divine in such suffering. He outlines the sociopolitical and economic factors surrounding the killings, such as drug trafficking and globalization, and touches on the Biblical story of Job and the Holocaust writings by Elie Wiesel. Original b&w photos by the author are included. The bibliography lists theological and philosophical works, interdisciplinary works, and fiction and memoir. There is no subject index.
