Rites performed in honor of the elephant-headed, Hindu deity Gaṇeśa for the purpose of dispelling distress, especially on his birthday (often referred to simply as caturthī). Presented as a discourse between the legendary sage Vyāsa and the king Yudhiṣṭhira.
