- Summary:
- This collection of 17 essays emerges in light of growing reports of corporate abuse in a number of contexts--government, business, nonprofit, and academia--and boldly asserts that in many of these cases we cannot call them anything but evil. The essays push the concept of evil beyond traditional theological and personalistic discourses to account for the dynamics of organizational evil, as well as situate evil in the context of over-all organizational capacities. Specific essays include an exploration of the psychology of evil in interpersonal and corporate contexts, evil in ecclesiastical organizations, how organizations use power for good and evil, the argument of "necessary evil for the greater good," unconsciousness and organizational evil, utopian evil, and legal ethics. The authors are mostly academics with backgrounds in public administration, business and management, political science, social and organizational psychology, economics, law, and psychiatry.
