Summary:
This book surveys ways to expand US-Republic of Korean (ROK) cooperation to meet non-traditional and global security challenges, such as nuclear nonproliferation, pandemics, and biological threats. The book focuses primarily on the security aspects of US-ROK bilateral alliances, and does not include an assessment of the US-ROK free trade agreement. Some areas examined are the maritime relationship, counterterrorism, climate change, and humanitarian aid. The final chapter considers whether the expansion of the US-ROK alliance agenda to include global and nontraditional security cooperation will ultimately strengthen or weaken the US-ROK alliance. Snyder directs the program on US-Korea policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
