Return of the number of general officers on the effective and retired lists on 1 April 1855, 1870, and 1885 respectively, 1870, 1880, 1885; of the number of field officers, 1870, 1880, 1885; of the effective strength of the army, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1885; of the total cost of pensions and gratuities on retirement borne on the estimates at the above dates; and, of the number of majors and of captains who have been compulsorily retired on account of non-promotion, or who have accepted gratuities on retirement since 1870.
