Education. Return of the cases in which, between the 1st January 1861 and the 31st March 1867, the Educational Department of the Privy Council has awarded,* or entered into correspondence respecting grants towards building elementary schools in England and Wales, with the amount in each case, distinguishing those cases in which the department has refused to make a grant towards building a national or Church of England School on the ground that children of dissenters might be excluded from such a school, specifying in each case the proportion or number of dissenters in respect of which the refusal was made, and whether or not the promoters met it by agreeing to insert a conscience clause in their Trust Deed; and distinguishing also the cases where any annual grant has been paid or promised, the amount of the last annual grant paid to each such school to be stated.
