Corporal punishment. Returns of the number of prisoners punished under the Act 26 & 27 Vict. c. 44 (13 July 1863), by whipping; the number of strokes ordered and inflicted in each case, and by what instrument; of all cases in each gaol and house of correction in the United Kingdom in which corporal punishment has been inflicted by orders or sentence of the visiting justices, or by courts of assize or quarter sessions, from the last returns to the present time; and, of all cases in each gaol and house of correction in England and Wales, and in Ireland, in which corporal punishment has been inflicted by whipping, under the authority of the Act 10 & 11 Vict. c. 82, of the Act 13 & 14 Vict. c. 37, and of the Act 25 & 26 Vict. c. 18; &c.
