East India (railways, &c.). Return to an address of the Honourable the House of Commons, dated 8 April 1859;--for, "copies of all contracts or agreements entered into by the East India Company, or by the present council for India, with any company formed for making railways, public roads, canals, works for irrigation, or other public works in India, by which contracts or agreements a rate of interest is guaranteed upon the capital of such companies already paid up, or hereafter to be paid up:" "and, statement giving the title and object of such companies; the amount of the capital of each company; the rate of interest guaranteed; and the conditions or circumstances (if any) under which the government of India is liable for the repayment of such capital, either at the option of the companies, or of that of the government."
