Population and poor relief (Scotland). Returns to two addresses of the Honourable the House of Commons, dated 21 & 30 June 1842;--for, no. 1. Return of the number of the population in each parish of the counties of Argyll, Inverness, Ross, Sutherland, and Caithness, at last census: return for each year, from 1836 to 1841, both inclusive, stating, in each of the aforesaid parishes, 1. Whether there is a legal or a voluntary assessment of heritors for the relief of the poor:--2. The annual amount of such assessment:--3. The annual amount of collections made at the kirk door:--4. The annual amount of funds from any other sources which may have passed through the hands of the kirk session for the purposes of relief to the poor:--5. The number of impotent persons on the books of the kirk session legally entitled to relief:--6. The annual amount of relief which has been divided by the kirk session among such persons:--7. The annual amount of relief distributed by the kirk session among needy persons other than the impotent. No. 2.
