- Summary:
- A 2011 exhibition and lecture series at the Palais de Chaillot honored the internationally esteemed landscape architect, Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994). Published in conjunction with that exhibition, this book is much more than a catalog and stands on its own as a rich offering for a wide audience of landscape designers, architects, and urban planners. The essays delve into Marx's life, creative output, and legacy from various viewpoints. Also included are hitherto untranslated texts by Marx himself discussing concepts of composition, the garden as art form, and landscape architecture in the city. The appendices include a listing of 53 plants named after Marx, a bibliography, and a chronology. The volume is abundantly illustrated and measures 9.5x12".
