- Summary:
- Yarnall (history of art and architecture, Salve Regina U., Newport, Rhode Island) wrote his PhD dissertation on LaFarge at the U. of Chicago in 1981. Since that time, he has been a leading scholar on the artist, actively involved with the compilation of a catalogue raisonnée and scholarly articles on individual works. This superb biography is the culmination of his decades in the field, describing the course of LaFarge's life and career, his travels, range of media and subject matter, his presentation of himself as an artist and changing identity over time, and his patrons and major commissions. The volume is heavily illustrated with b&w and color plates. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
