Summary:
The shaman Jose and his apprentice Curaka are Yaminahua Indians living in the Peruvian rainforest. Like all Yaminahua men, they were brought up to be hunters. Their vision of the world is formed by the rhythms of life in the forest and their intimate knowledge of its animals, birds and plants. For them, all forms of life are moved by forces which they call spirits. As a shaman, Jose knows these spirits and has the power to use them to cure sickness. Curaka wants this power and is learning from him.
