Summary:
Education scholars, most of them in Canada, analyze the encounter between progressive continental African academics currently located in the West and predominantly Western discourses of empowerment, focusing of course on education scholars in Canada. They show how scholars appropriate aspects of the discourse they find useful, question the marginalization of Africa and Africans in much of the discourse, and develop African or African-informed alternatives. Among the topics are Eurocentric discourses and African philosophies and epistemologies of education, reframing and indigenizing science education in Africa, and a theoretical analysis of cultural games and mathematics education in Ghana.
