Summary:

Rindge (religious studies, Gonzaga U., Washington) presents a revision of his 2008 doctoral dissertation at Emory University "Illustrating Wisdom: Luke 12:16-21 and the Interplay of Death and Possessions in Sapiental Literature." The parable, which appears only in Luke and Thomas, is one of the most neglected, he says, at least partly because it seems such a simple and straightforward critique of avarice. He finds in it, however, a reflection of attitudes on death and possessions widely discussed in Second-Temple Judaism and in Greco-Roman literature.
