Summary:

Hindu mythology, the first five chapters (adhyāya) of a text praising the greatness of the city of lights (Kāśīmāhātmya), referring to the city of Vārāṇasī; particularly important to the Hindu deity Śiva and liṅga worship; says that the city will help to expiate sins and give merit to those who visit there; noted as being a section of the Pātālakhaṇḍa of the Padmapurāṇa.
