Summary:
Most would say that the scientific ferment about evolution took place mostly in Europe, and that the political ferment in 19th-century Argentine had little if anything to do with evolution, acknowledge Levine and Novoa (both history, U. of South Florida), but that is because most people have not looked beneath the surface. They begin by making the case for the importance of peripheral developments in science, and the relevance of Darwinism to Argentine history. Then they present primary documents documenting evolutionary thought by Argentine scientists throughout the century. This volume continues their 2010 collection of documents.
