Later chapters cover judging horses, reproduction and breeding, and nutrition and health care. There is also material on buildings and equipment, horse behavior and training, and equitation, in addition to advice on business aspects and career opportunities. The text offers a visual orientation, with many color photos, charts, tables, graphs, and illustrations. Other learning features include review and critical thinking questions. About 30 pages of appendices supply vaccination schedules, measurement standards and conversion charts, checklists, worksheets, and Internet resources. This fourth edition contains new and expanded material in areas such as genetics, green buildings, and sexed semen. A new appendix correlates the text's chapters with national content standards.
