Spuriously attributed to the Greek poet Anacreon. This style of lyric poetry written in imitation of Anacreon is generically known as Anacreontea.
Part I consists of Greek text of "Anacreontea" (p. 1-69) followed by Henri Estienne's Observationes (p. 70-100) and Latin commentary "Anacreontis aliquot odae ab Henrico Stephano eodem carmine expressae" (on p. 101-122). Part II consists of Latin translation of "Anacreontea" by Helias Andreas entitled: Anacreontis et aliorum lyricorum aliquot poëtarum odae". Renouard calls for the Latin translation by Helias Andreas to be part of the work whether the pagination continues or is separate.
First seven words of title transliterated from Greek letters.
Previously issued by Henri Estienne in 1554.
Part II has separate title page reading: Anacreontis Teii antiquissimi poetae Lyrici odae ab Helia Andrea Latinae factae. Lutetiae : Apud Robertum Stephanum MDLVI [1556]
