- Summary:
- Written with verve and authority, this study raises the profile of the brilliant and much-understudied Neoplatonist, who was exiled under the Emperor Constantine, and died in c.532 C.E. Metry-Tresson (her doctorate in ancient philosophy is from the U. of Fribourg in Switzerland) describes the philosophical concepts of Damaskios's work, Péri Archón, with separate chapters on the dualism of the human soul, knowledge, and word (logos), and from these to Damaskios's theory of aporetism (a concept of the limits of human thought in light of the ineffable). The text is in French, with frequent quotations in Greek (with French translation). Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
