Summary:
Amidst current debate over whether or not the prevalence of autism in younger generations is increasing, more of these students are clearly arriving on college campuses. The difficulties in communication and social interaction that characterize this disorder can present a particular difficulty in a composition classroom, which is often an initial requirement for students. Comprised of eight papers, most of which were presented in a special panel at the 2005 Conference on College Composition and Communication, this volume is arranged in two sections. The first explores the ways in which autism spectrum disorders might interact with a college composition class, while the second addresses pedagogical strategies for handling it. Editors are Gerstle (English, U. of Cincinnati) and Walsh (English, U. of Nevada). Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
