Summary:
Politics of Segmentation analyses the impact of party competition on reforms of unemployment benefits in Europe, utilising a comparative approach. It brings together two important issues in welfare state research that have raised considerable interest among social policy scholars. Firstly, tit examines he complex influence of party competition on social policy-making that goes beyond the traditional hypotheses of partisanship; secondly, is examines the ways in which social policy creates different levels of protection for different social groups. Providing an overview of unemployment protection policy across 28 countries, as well as in depth case studies of party competition, Politics of Segmentation will be of interest to scholars of political economy, social policy and welfare.
