Summary:
Climate change carries profound implications for energy security. As reserves of easily accessible oil and gas decline, the global energy system is already struggling to supply the growing demands of Asia's new energy consumers. The pressing need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions compounds these challenges. While these issues have prompted wide-spread economic, environmental, and security fears, they are also linked to positive trends that include increasing access to modern energy in the Asia-Pacific region. Viewed on a global scale, the primary energy security challenge is to manage the legitimate energy demands of 7 billion people within the context of ecological limits. This volume responds to these dynamics by examining how the concept of energy security is being transformed in the era of climate change. Book jacket.
