- Summary:
- Award-winning author Haslinger offers an account of surviving a family vacation on Phi Phi Island, Thailand, after a tsunami hit in December 2004. Half of the guests and staff at the resort where they stayed were killed, along with 200,000 others in the region. A year after the disaster, the author returned to the island to check facts and compare stories with others who were still trying to come to grips with the emotional aftermath of the disaster. The book is written without any capital letters. It was first published in 2007 in German as Phi Phi Island. Ein Bericht, and has been translated by Thomas Hansen (German, Wellesley College) and Abby Hansen, a free-lance writer and translator. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
