- Summary:
- Irwin (humanities, Johns Hopkins University) explores Hart Crane's references and influences from a variety of sources, including art history, biography, psychoanalysis, classical literature, and mythology. Unlike previous critical studies of Crane's poetry, which have usually sought to interpret Crane's epic poem "The Bridge" by first looking at the shorter poems in Crane's first book of poetry, White Buildings, this study shows how understanding "The Bridge" can help readers interpret the poems in White Buildings and in Crane's last poem, "The Broken Tower." The book includes b&w classical paintings shedding light on interpretations and influences. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
