- This three-volume reference on the foundational principles of the American justice system provides students and general readers with an easy to understand guide to the core principles of the legal system as well as important documents, cases, and court rulings covering both criminal and civil procedures. Volume one provides a collection of chapters outlining the history and structure of the legal system, including state and federal rights and responsibilities, criminal and civil procedures, and enforcement and penalty standards.
