Summary:
This reference was meticulously prepared by two authors who independently envisioned its creation. They began working together in 2002, met only once in person but used all the technology that makes long-distance collaborations possible. Ariel is head of the Coin Department of the Israel Antiquities Authority, and his PhD thesis (2007; Tel Aviv U.) is the basis of the textual presentation. Jean-Philippe Fontanille is an independent researcher with numerous articles on numismatics under his belt and a dedication to classifying dies of Judean coins of the Persian, Hellenistic, and Roman periods.
