Summary:
Irmer (linguistics, U. of Leipzig) develops a sufficient formalization of bridging inferences that bridging phenomena can be integrated into the construction of a structured discourse representation. On a larger scale, the dynamic-logic framework can account for underspecifications in cohesion and coherence of discourses either by resolving them inferentially or constraining them according to the discourse context. He also comprehensively summarizes research during the past decade on text meaning and discourse interpretation, introducing and comparing competing views in discourse semantics and pragmatics.
