- Summary:
- William Romaine Newbold's annotations, in red and black ink, in an interleaved copy of Richard Volkmann's edition of Plotinus, together with the life of Prophyri (Plotini Enneades, praemisso Prophyrii De vita Plotini deque ordine librorum eius libello; Lipsiae: in aedibus B.G. Teubneri, 1883-1884). The interleaved copy is bound in a total of 3 volumes: vol. 1; vol. 2, part 1; and vol. 2, part 2. Vol. 1 contains a note listing certain passages, with the heading: Passages to be read with graduates 1908-9 (p. xxxv). Vol. 2, part 1 contains a pencilled note possibly dated in 1904 (p. 1). The last volume is without annotations except for one marginal note (p. 522). According to remarks made by Frederick J. E. Woodbridge at a memorial service for Newbold (Newbold Memorial Meeting, Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania, 1926?, p. 20), Newbold's widow mentioned there being a translation by him of Plotinus's Enneades among his papers; however, no further information could be found concerning the existence of such a manuscript.
