Summary:

This work collects case studies in applied climate science and discussion of their implications, shedding light on how and why climate change is happening and its impact on wildlife and ecosystems. There is also discussion of management strategies. Contributors are from six different countries; they work in diverse spatial and temporal scales in different ecosystems to demonstrate the diversity of biological response to climate change. The first section of the book reviews the foundations of climate science and offers an overview of Western climate change. Later sections report on species and ecological relationships to climate change, and methods for monitoring the ecological consequences of climate change. Final sections offer insight on conservation effects in the face of rapid climate change, and future research needs. The book contains a few color and b&w maps and photos. Beever is a biologist and member of the Union of Concerned Scientists. Belant teaches wildlife ecology and management at Mississippi State University.
