Every year the "Sacrifice, Cult, and Atonement" section convenes at the Society's annual meeting, and the nine studies here are selections from papers presented in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Among the topics are the rhetoric of sacrifice, the place of human sacrifice in the Israelite cult, recombinant sacrifice in early Christianity, assessing the early Christian reticence to transfer the idea of the priesthood to the community, and spreading the sweet scent of the gospel as the cult of the wise. The Society of Biblical Literature publishes the paperbound edition; Brill publishes the hardbound. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
