Summary:
Scholars from a number of countries who have spent the past few years exploring peripheral areas and outer borders of the medieval world turn their attention to islands. They pivot around the themes of the search for undiscovered and paradise islands, the idea of fictional islands in Old Norse texts, the quality of islands in literary evidence, monasteries as and on islands, the human body as an island of religious achievement, and the seasonal islandization of certain lands. The group's first publication considered discourse about the edges of the world; those papers were from a conference on the Estonian island of Muhu, and so the series is called the Muhu Proceedings.
