- Summary:
- This is a manuscript miscellany comprising mostly of mystical works originating in North Africa, likely in Morocco (possibly in Meknès); Magid me-reshit is a mystical system of predicting events based upon weather and astrological signs (with a postscript describing the teḳufot, the lunar calendar setting system; f. 1r-10v); Goralot le-Aḥitofel is a cabalistic game of lots by which a coordinate word is chosen from the goralot table (f. 11v) and the corresponding prediction foretells the future of the goral player (f. 10v-15r); Ḳeviʻat ha-ḥodshim is a work on predicting the monthly new moon (in Ladino; f. 15v-17r) followed by sections of Ḥidot, Teḳufot, and Ḥeshbonot (riddles, calendrical cycles, and mathematical exercises; f. 18r-43r); Minhagim (customs) of Meknès arranged by Refaʼel Berdugo (f. 43v-50v, and f. 56 from this work bound in later); a summary of the Book of Raziel (f. 52r-55v); more ciphers and magic (f. 57r-v). Written mostly in a Sephardic-Moroccan semicursive script, in the hand of Shelomoh Maʼamin (his signature in double-tuǧras at the opposing footings of f. 15r); Minhagim and subsequent portions written in different hands. Bound in contemporary marbled boards with blue-cloth spine; paper with horizontal ink rulings, likely for a business ledger.
