Summary:
Examining the cultural history and modern life of one of the UK's largest diaspora communities, this volume explores issues of identity and traditional connection among Scottish Americans. Drawing on interviews with members of social, cultural, and fraternal organizations, the work discusses the maintenance of ties to Scotland and Scottish heritage through expatriate organizations and relationships with the newly empowered Scottish state, and special problems facing hyphenated Americans in maintaining generational connections to their cultural traditions. Sim is a professor of sociology at the University of Western Scotland. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
