- Summary:
- Kountz (1846-1909) fought with the Thirty-seventh Ohio Infantry during the Civil War under General Sherman and participated in the siege at Vicksburg. In 1899, the US War Department appointed him as the official historian of the Vicksburg National Military Park, for which he wrote a chronicle of the armies that fought there, published in 1901, and a previously unpublished narrative of both sides of the campaign and siege. Both are presented in this volume with an introduction by Smith (history, U. of Tennessee at Martin). Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
