- Drawing on their correspondence, this work chronicles the friendship between two great authors of the Romantic era: Samuel Taylor Coleridge, one of England's greatest poets, and Charles Lamb, one of the greatest essayists, although he is not widely read now. Rather than reflecting on philosophical issues related to the meaning of friendship in the Romantic era, the book offers a straightforward account of their friendship, from their early years together at Christ's Hospital Boarding School, through the various tragedies and successes of their lives, to their deaths only a few weeks apart.
