- Burton J. Kollock, undertaker, was born in 1823 to D. N. Kollock (see Lesser). Kollock's funeral home was located at 716 S. 2nd Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Burton Kollock was married to Margaret Kollock, and they had two children, David and Maggie Kollock.
- Summary:
- This leather-bound ledger of Philadelphia undertaker Burton J. Kollock contains the services performed and expenses incurred for funeral arrangements. The ledger dates from January 1864 to December 1867 on 524 numbered pages. Each page has the month and year at the top and is divided into five columns: the first column indicating "paid"; the second, the date; the third indicates the services performed; the fourth column is labeled "Dr." (debitor) and lists the cost of each service; the fifth column is labeled "Cr." (creditor) and lists the total cost of services. The services provided range from the simple--such as a coffin, carriage, and crucifix with a total cost of $8.00--to the elaborate--such as a mahogany coffin lined in cashmere, public announcement, hearse and carriage, removal, permits, keep in preserves, etc. with a total cost of $129.00. Each page lists the client or estate of the deceased and his or her address.
