Summary:
After a long career involved with medieval song (Southern Methodist University) in which she undertook transcription and documentation of roughly 4,500 melodies, Mayer-Martin died in 2009, before completion of her goal of sorting and cataloguing melodies based on their incipits. Fortunately, she had a partner in the endeavor. Dorothy Keyser joined the project in 1994, and began creating a digital database, inputting the melodies as a series of intervals expressed in semitones. This catalogue is the result of their combined efforts. The indexing and cross referencing are extraordinary, offering an important resource for scholars and performers working with the medieval monophonic lyric and related polyphonic repertoires.
