The articles of this proceedings were first presented at the 6th Meeting of the Bird Working Group of the International Council for ArchaeolZoology in Groningen, the Netherlands in August, 2008, with 26 of the original 37 lectures included. Heavily illustrated with tables, maps, and b&w and color plates of the sites and finds, the articles present research and analysis of avian finds at a diverse selection of archaeological sites, including Windsor Castle, the Abbasid Qasr al-Hayr al-Sharqi, Roman Spain, and a 17th-century monastery in Portugal. Birds for food, rituals, symbolism, and hunting, as well as the specifics of the researchers' investigations are described.
