- 本书通过对唐代两代的食品, 饮品, 饮食业, 饮食习俗, 饮食文化交流, 饮食思想的比较考察, 发现唐宋饮食文化有着许多显著的不同. 唐代饮食文化深受游牧民族和异域风情的影响, 具有鲜明的"胡化"色彩, 而宋代饮食文化的"胡化"色彩则大大减弱. 唐代饮食文化显得豪迈粗犷, 宋代饮食文化则显得细腻精致. 唐代饮食文化的贵族化色彩显著, 宋代饮食文化的平民化色彩突出. 唐代饮食文化的发展基本上局限于自然经济的范畴, 而宋代饮食文化中的商品经济因素则显著增多.
