- This volume originates from a 2009 conference (hosted by the U. of Antwerp and the Rockox House Museum) titled "New Urbanism and the Grid: The Low Countries in International Context. Exchanges in Theory and Practice 1550-1800." The concepts of castrametatio and the grid are explored in 11 contributions focused on activities in the Low Countries and their impact internationally. (One essay offers discussion of Frank Lloyd Wright, and another is devoted to Chicago architecture and the American grid.)
