- Summary:
- Balogh (Old Testament, Protestant Theological Institute of Kolozvar/Cluj-Napoca, Romania) examines three chapters within the section of Isaiah (13-23) that contains prophecies concerning foreign nations. During the prophet's time, the two neighboring kingdoms on the Nile were closely allied, he says, so it is little surprise that he dealt with them one after the other. He begins by setting the context in Isaiah 13-23, particularly reconstructing the broken stele of YHWH. The he looks at the three chapters in turn: lands of riddles in 18, from chaos to covenant in 19, and naked truth in 20. The study is revised from his 2009 doctoral dissertation at the Theological University of the Reformed Churches, in Kampen, Netherlands. As usual with Brill the quality of the physical volume is excellent. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
