Summary:
Espoo is a Finnish city where the Convention on Environmental impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context was adopted and signed in 1991. Since then, as stated in the foreword, "The Convention has been applied over 700 times to date, to activities planning in one Party likely to have an impact on the environment of another Party, and the vast majority of those cases have involved at least one EU member state, or a neighbouring state that has adopted EU environmental legislation." This book is intended for a wide audience of developers, researchers, and government officials seeking information about how the Convention works in practice and has been integrated into legal systems. Marsden (Flinders Law School in Adelaide, Australia) and Koivurova (Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law, U. of Lapland, Finland) are joined by contributors based internationally, with expertise in environmental planning, international policy, and energy use.
