- Summary:
- This slim volume, part of a series profiling important people and events in modern Irish history, examines the life and times of William Martin Murphy, a prominent business man and media baron during the tumultuous era of political upheaval at the beginning of the twentieth century. The work explores Murphy's business activities as well as his political positions as a nationalist, but one, as a rabid capitalist and anti-trade union activist, at odds with many of the most important revolutionary leaders of the time. The work draws on the small number of personal documents from Murphy and his family archives, as well as press accounts and secondary scholarship. Morrissey is an expert on Irish labor history.
