Summary:
Reinert (business administration, Harvard Business School) aims to reconstruct the development of international political economy and its relation to the historical development of capitalism within a historical perspective that reconstructs the actual theories and policies of England and Europe at the dawn of capitalism, along with how they were transmitted and modified across borders (as opposed to the retroactive historiography of political economy invented more to fit late-19th-century needs and perspectives). As a work of intellectual archaeology, it places a heavy emphasis on translations of economic and political texts across European languages as these demonstrate the political-economic ideas that were sought for emulation.
