Summary:
Published in conjunction with a 2011-2012 exhibition at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena California, this volume offers a detailed look at the Los Angeles art world, printmaking in particular, from 1900 through 1960, and from 1960 through now. The essays examine the scene, including the workshops--the Tamarind Lithography Workshop led by June Wayne, Gemini G.E.L., and Cirrus Editions--and artists: locals such as Richard Diebenkorn, Ed Moses, and Ed Ruscha, and artists who traveled to LA to make prints, including Joseph Albers, Louise Nevelson, Claes Oldenburg, and Robert Rauschenberg. The volume is big (10x11.5"), elegantly designed and produced, and extensively illustrated. It includes the catalog, a glossary, and a chronology.
