- Summary:
- Berry, former professor of ecology at U. College London of over 20 years and ex-president of Christians in Science, introduces some of the greater and lesser ideas in the history of ecology. Chapter topics include: an over-view of ecological frameworks, the natural world as an energetic system, polemics in describing biological and geological change, stewardship and concepts of natural resources, environmental literacy, the study of humans as part of nature, and the danger humans pose or could to our planet. A concluding chapter on "God's Two Books" navigates a particular tension between the scientific and theological apprehension of the world and humans, in which Berry positively highlights Francis Bacon's Advancement of Learning and Darwin's Origins of Species. This book is written well for a general audience who wants an over-view of ecology, particularly those coming from a religious background.
